1. Occupational Safety, Hygiene and Enviroment (NQF Level 2)

Description:

This qualification enables learners to identify and evaluate occupational safety, hygiene and environmental factors, in occupational environments, which may have a detrimental effect on the health and safety of learners in such environments. Learners credited with this qualification are able to perform essential measurements and functions that promote a culture of health and safety in occupational environments. 8. Legal Liability - OHS Act or MHS Act

Description:

The issue of health and safety at a mine has only in recent times been deemed to be important enough that it warrants comprehensive regulating by statutes. The statutes, however, do not always give a clear indication as to how one fulfils their requirements. The Occupational Health & Safety Act 85 of 1993 (OHSA) is a complex statute regulating health & Safety at the workplace. It basically reflects the standards society expects, when it comes to workplace health & safety.

Description:

11. Advance Health and Safety Training

Description:

The Act known an OHS Act aims to ensure acceptable safe working conditions and a working environment free form hazards. Failing to identify unsafe acts or conditions or take action to prevent incidents that could harm employees, contract workers, visitors and probably the environment can lead to legal action against employers

12. SHE Representative

Description:

The person credited with this unit standard is able to understand the objectives and statutory requirements pertaining to health and safety in the workplace. The learners will be able to explain the rights, powers, functions and duties of the workplace health and safety representative and how any errant health, safety and environmental issues may be handled. Learners will also be able to participate in the safety, health and environmental structures and measure these activities according to health, safety and environmental requirements.
